Objectives In this course, starting from properties of the integers, we study basic constructions and structures of abstract algebra.
  • Integers
    (Euclidean algorithm, prime factorization, congruences)
  • Groups
    (Basics, factor groups, isomorphism theorems, cyclic groups, direct products)
  • Rings
    (Basics, isomorphism theorems, quotient field, localization, euclidian rings and unique factorization domains, irreducible polynomials)
  • Fields
    (field extensions, splitting fields)
