Objectives Upon completion of the course students will be able to:

  • explain how the internet and the WWW works
  • name the main components of dynamic, data-driven web applications and explain how these components work
  • install the CMS Joomla on their own webspace
  • publish content with the CMS Joomla
  • modify and adapt the appearance of a website made with Joomla
  • name the important phases of an it-project an explain the activities done in these phases
  • create simple UML use case, class and activity diagrams
  • create a software requirements specification for a web application

The course is aimed at non computer science students

  • architecture of the internet and the WWW
  • functional principles of a web server
  • functional principles of a content management system
  • installing and running Joomla
  • important procedures for it-projects
  • usage and application of UML
  • writing software requirement specifications
Criteria for evaluation
  • 1/3 home excercises
  • 1/3 online test
  • 1/3 final exam (practical and theoretical)
Methods screencasts, excercises, forum postings, practical and theoretical examination
