Objectives Education to mathematical thinking methods and to computational techniques in the area of linear algebra and analytical geometry, with special consideration of those areas which are most relevant to physics. We firstly give an overview of the most important concepts and results, sometimes without a formal proof. Then these ideas are studied in more depth. Proof and reasoning techniques should be developed to an extent which is necessary for a critical use of modern computer programs.
Subject Contents of Linear Algebra I and II:
Fundamental concepts of algebra; numbers, functions, and maps. Vector spaces and vector calculus. Matrices, determinants, inner product spaces and eigenvalue problems. Solutions of systems of linear equations. Foundations of group theory.
Criteria for evaluation Written exams.
