Objectives Practice and consolidation of the lecture contents using weekly programming assignments.

  • Elementary data types (numbers, characters, strings, boolean values) and instruction kinds (assignment, branches, loops)
  • decomposition of programs into methods; parameter passing; recursion
  • working with arrays and dynamic data structures
  • classes as the foundation of object-oriented programming
  • systematic program design using stepwise refinement
  • exception handling
  • packages for structuring large programs
  • programming style
  • test methods
Criteria for evaluation Correction and marking of the submitted programming assignments; final test at the end of the semester.
Methods Autonomous work on programming assignments in Java; discussion of sample solutions in the practical hours.
