Bachelor's programme Business Informatics 2025W |
Learning Outcomes |
Competences |
The students are able to formulate circumstances from a familiar application domain in a mathematically and logically correct manner. They are acquainted with the mathematical fundamentals relevant to business informatics and can actively apply this knowledge in the development of information and communication systems.

Skills |
Knowledge |
- LO2: Students can translate colloquial expressions into logical language (K3).
- LO3: They can carry out simple mathematical proofs (K3).
- LO4: They can work with functions and relations (e.g., inversion, finding minimal/maximal elements, etc.) (K3).
- LO5: They can handle vector spaces, matrices, and linear systems of equations (K3).
- LO6: They can perform encryption and decryption of messages using RSA in “small theoretical examples” (K3) and understand the principle for “real messages” (K2).

LO1: Introduction to discrete mathematics and algebra: set theory, propositional and predicate logic, description logics, logical inference (subsumption, membership, satisfiability, open- and closed-world assumption); overview of non-standard logics: default logic, modal logic, fuzzy logic; elementary proof techniques, case distinctions, proof by induction, proof by contradiction; functions and relations; vector spaces and matrices; linear systems of equations; basic number theory concepts (modular arithmetic, greatest common divisor, RSA encryption and digital signatures); algebraic structures.

Methods |
The course is designed along the "flipped classroom" concept. Theoretical
content is presented via videos followed by a live session per week, where questions are answered and examples, that are not treated in detail in the videos, are discussed. The course is complemented by an exercise class.
Electronic self assessment via voluntary Moodle tests.
