At the end of the course, the students are able to

  • understand the main points of standard speech on matters regularly encountered in work and leisure with little hesitation.
  • understand texts of a descriptive, explanatory, narrative, and conversational nature related to facts, events in daily life, and personal experiences.
  • express themselves in oral form, using the proper communication strategies.
  • elaborate texts which explain, describe or narrate aspects related to the subjects and contents of this level.

Elaborate a feasibility plan for a company, examine and compare companies. Presenting a company.
Write a curriculum vitae, evaluate job offers. Hiring staff. Assess competencies for different company departments. Devise a motivation program in accompany. Determine criteria for downsizing.
Model a promotion strategy, prepare an advertising campaign. Develop an innovative product.
Analyse products and target consumers, create a consumer profile. Carry out a structured interview.
Sales management, how to negotiate with other companies.
Place orders to companies.

The students get acquainted with the economic language related to the business topics of the course, i.e., companies, human resources, marketing and advertising, Sales, etc.
The students learn the grammar associated with level B1.2 according to the CEFR.

Learning Outcomes

Business related knowledge: Types of companies, corporate organization charts, tasks of management positions, SWOT analysis, importance of company departments depending of the economic sectors, main marketing and advertising concepts, characteristics of successful companies, sales management, commercial activities concepts and terms, types of customers, sales applied psychology, trade fairs.

Grammar and syntax: imperfect tense, simple past tense, pluperfect, present subjunctive, past perfect subjunctive, imperfect subjunctive; main and subordinate clauses, compound sentences and complex sentences; noun clauses, relative clauses, adverbial clauses: final clauses, causal clauses, temporal clauses, consecutive clauses.

Criteria for evaluation Ongoing assessment consist of the following components:

  • Written assignment
  • Oral presentations
  • Written examinations

Attendence of 80% is compulsory in the course.
