Learning Outcomes
Competences
1. General language competences

The students have knowledge of language learning strategies and communication strategies appropriate to B1.1. level. They are able to produce and understand Spanish at a B1.1 level according to the CEFR.

2. Specific language competences

They can understand the main points of clear standard Spanish input in familiar business contexts. They can understand factual business and economic information presented in Spanish. They can produce connected texts in appropriate business genres (emails, memos, etc.) They can produce brief reports in standard conventionalized format, passing on factual information and reasons for actions. They can describe experiences and events and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. The students are familiarized with challenges in intercultural communication.

Understand the different components of a CV, producing a CV and convering letter, preparing for a job interview
Written professional communication, requesting information, formulating and/or responding to complaints
Oral professional communication, talking or managing telephone calls

The course focuses on the acquisition of core skills corresponding to level B1.1 and their practical application in the form of oral and written communication.
It also includes an approach to economic language:

  • CVs, covering letters, job interviews;
  • work and employment,
  • commercial correspondence

Learning Outcomes

The students …

  • can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, studies, leisure, etc.
  • can deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where the language is spoken
  • are able to produce simple connected texts on topics that are familiar or of personal interest
  • can describe experiences and events, hopes and ambitions
  • dominate all tenses (future, conditional, past tenses), presente de subjuntivo, pronouns, perífrasis verbales, imperativos
Criteria for evaluation Ongoing assessment consists of the following components:
80 % attendance
Written assignments
Oral presentations
Written examination
Methods Communicative activities to foster development of student abilities in the four skill areas (speaking, listening, reading and writing).
Individual, pair or group activities based on a variety of materials, discussions
Reading, summarising and analysing topical texts
Homework exercices
Role plays
Language English and Spanish
Study material The required materials are made available on Moodle or in paper form and the students also have to buy a workbook for this course.
