Competences
  • General Language competences

Building on Italian Communicative Skills and Business Italian 1 & 2, students extend knowledge of language learning strategies and communication strategies appropriate to B2.2 level. They are able to produce and understand Italian at B2.2 level according to the CEFR.

  • Specific language competences

Students have a clear awareness of challenges in intercultural communication and issues of conducting business in contemporary multilingual and multicultural settings.
They demonstrate fluency in understanding and analyzing key aspects of their own national culture and of the Italian one.
Students are keenly aware of register variation in Italian and can use a wide repertoire of language skills appropriately depending on interlocuter and communicative context.
Students are able to observe typical features (thinking, acting, communicating) of the target culture and react by asking questions, expressing understanding and proposing solutions.

Learning Outcomes

Can work collaboratively with people who have different cultural orientations, discussing similarities and differences in views and perspectives.
Can identify and reflect on similarities and differences in culturally determined behavioural patterns (e.g. gestures and speech volume or, for sign languages, sign size) and discuss their significance in order to negotiate mutual understanding.
Can clarify misunderstandings and misinterpretations during intercultural encounters, suggesting how things were actually meant in order to clear the air and move the discussion forward.
Can understand and analyse key aspects of Italian culture and how they influence business practices, decision-making and workplace dynamics.
Can understand the main ideas of a complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in intercultural and business field.
Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options with a high level of grammatical accuracy and stylistic appropriateness.

  3. National identities
  4. Perception of time and its implications
  5. Italian geo-economics (extension of the contents of the class Business Italian 1) and its cultural and historical treasures
  6. Interaction between culture and economy

… the key theoretical frameworks and models of intercultural communication, along with their practical applications in various real-world contexts, particularly in professional and business environments.

2. Grammar: reported speech and, if needed, other aspects of grammar and vocabulary necessary for linguistic and communicative competences at B2.2 level.

Criteria for evaluation 80% class attendance is mandatory. In total, students have the possibility to reach 100 points. A total minimum of 55 points out of 100 is necessary in order to obtain a positive grade.

Students will be assessed on the basis of

  • Written assignments
  • Oral presentations
  • Written and oral examinations.
Methods Communicative activities to promote and develop speaking (role plays, discussions, presentations), reading, listening and writing (summarising, analysing) competences.
The class activities can be in pairs or in groups and are based on a variety of materials (texts, videos, pictures, ads).
Individual research work and presentation of the results.
Self-study (grammar) could probably be necessary to achieve the learning outcomes.
Homework exercises and weekly written report on the content of the lesson.
