Learning Outcomes
Competences
Upon successfully completing the course, students are able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles and established concepts of low-dimensional quantum systems, covering the areas listed below. They are able to engage in problems in the area of low-dimensional semiconductor systems while working with the scientific literature.

This exercise is methodologically complemented by the lecture Physics of Low Dimensional Systems.

Skills Knowledge
Upon completing the course, students will possess the following skills. They are able to

  • describe and critically evaluate experimental methodologies used to investigate low-dimensional semiconductor systems (k2/k5), with a focus on collecting and breaking down information from the scientific literature (k4),
  • apply fundamental semiconductor nanotechnology concepts and equations to analyze problems (k3/k4).
During the course, students will acquire knowledge in the following areas and concepts of the physics of low dimensional systems:

  • hetero and double heterostructures;
  • nanoelectronics;
  • integrated nanolasers;
  • integrated detectors based on nanostructures;
  • colloidal nanostructures;
  • nanowires;
  • quantum dot light sources;
  • color centers.
Criteria for evaluation Evaluation will be based on the quality of the presentations and the active participation in the exercise class.
Methods Students are expected to solve exercise questions as part of their self-study. Students are required to discuss the presented results in class actively.
