Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students understand the composition and working principles of components and basic circuits of pneumatic drive technology. They are able to apply this knowledge to solve drive tasks and to comparatively assess pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical alternatives for drive tasks.
Skills Knowledge
  • ability to read pneumatic circuit schematics (k5)
  • component selection and circuit dimensioning for given drive tasks (k6)
  • mathematical modelling and simulation of pneumatic drive systems in MATLAB/Simulink (k5)
  • Historical overview and industrial importance of pneumatics
  • Repetition and consolidation of basics from thermodynamics
  • Pneumatic components: Generation, treatment, and distribution of pressurized air, valves, actuators, vacuum technology, pneumatic circuit technology
  • Circuit technology: Schematics according to ISO standard
  • Mathematical modeling and simulation based on a lumped parameter approach
Criteria for evaluation
  • Mandatory attendance of lab exercises
  • evaluation of lab reports
  • one written exam
