Kompetenzen
(*)Students are able to understand the relevance of quality assurance systems and specifications in the recycling of plastics and to relate the influences of process steps and recycling technologies on material quality. Key topics include the impact of process steps on material composition and property profiles, the importance of the material composition of the input stream, the limitations of influence through processing steps, quality assurance systems in general, and specifications in the recycling industry in particular. Building on these essential topics, students are able to derive the appropriate waste stream for recycling based on existing product quality requirements [k2], and assess the resulting recyclate quality based on the available material modification possibilities [k5].
Fertigkeiten Kenntnisse
(*)Know the quality criteria for recyclates and derive exemplary measures from them [k1, k2].

Select and critically assess influencing parameters according to the required recyclate qualities [k5].

Adapt and design the process steps of mechanical recycling to meet the requirements, and evaluate the resulting outcomes [k3, k6].

(*)Interactions and effects of contamination in plastics and composite materials; possibilities to influence the property profile of recyclates; material modification through targeted interventions in waste processing, material conversion, and material post-processing; waste management and process engineering in recycling; specifications and certifications; quality assurance.
Beurteilungskriterien (*)Written exam with transparent point system and corresponding grading.
Lehrmethoden (*)Lecture on fundamental aspects with selective collaborative discussions of the course content. Knowledge is reinforced and competencies are developed through self-study.
