Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students know and understand theoretical basics of wireless communication systems (e.g., modulation, mixers, oscillators). They are able to apply this knowledge to implement and analyze a wireless transmission system using software-defined-radio (SDR) and a microcontroller board (eLITe-Board) with a transceiver chip.
Skills Knowledge
Students are able to

  • implement a receiver in GNU Radio Companion and analyze the received signal in time- and frequency domain (k2-k4)
  • implement a transmitter using the eLITe-Board and analyze different modulation schemes (time- and frequency) (k2-k4)
  • set up a non-coherent receiver in GNU Radio Companion (k2-k4)
  • implement a receiver using the eLITE-board and investigate and analyze the received signal strength (k2-k4)
  • implement and analyze ASK transmission (k2-k4)
  • Oscillators and PLLs
  • Mixers and amplifiers
  • Linear and nonlinear modulation: Transmitter and receiver architectures, error and bandwidth performance
  • Synchronization
