Learning Outcomes
Competences
After successful completion of the course, students are able to describe simple problems from the fields of classical mechanics and themodynamics, to apply the ways of thinking and solution methods of physics and to transfer these to concrete physical systems.
Skills Knowledge
By attending the course, students learn to

  • describe the phenomena of classical mechanics and dynamics mathematically. (K3)
  • apply the concepts of classical mechanics to basic aspects of the rigid body and fluids. (K3)
  • explain the basic concepts of thermodynamics. (K2)
During the course, students acquire knowledge in the following areas of physics:

  • areas of physics and their interrelation
  • elementary physical units

Classical mechanics:

  • Newton's axioms
  • force, mass energy
  • momentum and angular momentum
  • harmonic oscillator
  • elasticity
  • hydrostatics and hydrodynamics

Thermodynamics:

  • temperature
  • heat, heat capacity
  • ideal and real gases
  • thermodynamic cycles
  • laws of thermodynamics
  • kinetic gas theory
