Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students are able to apply technical database and communication systems to support digitized engineering processes in particular in terms of data consistency to practical tasks.
Skills Knowledge
Specifically, they can

  • understand and correctly apply the tasks, components and functions of technical database and communication systems (k2, k3)
  • use them to map and analyze digitalized (but also analog) engineering and business processes in terms of continuity and consistency of models, information and data flows (k3, k4)
  • handle modern EDM/PDM or PLM systems and apply them to practical tasks (k3, k4)
  • Role and importance of engineering and product data management in the various phases of the product life cycle
  • Tasks of technical database and communication systems in the life cycle of technical products
  • PLM systems as integration platforms for data generation systems (CAx systems)
  • Components of PLM systems such as document management, change and release management, variant and assembly management, project management.
  • ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) or PPS (Production Planning and Control) systems
  • MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems)
  • PLM systems: Integration of EDM/PDM systems with ERP systems for the consistency of models, information and data flows.
