Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students are able to analyze complex technical problems and independently develop solutions that can be implemented using CAD modeling and 3D printing (k6). They understand the processes of additive manufacturing and can integrate these into product development cycles in a meaningful way (k2, k3). In addition, they master all process steps for the production of an FDM 3D print (k3). Students can work in teams to develop design tasks suitable for production and take critical attributes into account (k3, k4). They are also able to define criteria for components and verify these using test methods (k4, k5).
Skills Knowledge
Students can create and modify components and assemblies using a professional CAD system, taking into account design rules specifically for additive manufacturing processes (k3). They are able to produce prototypes with an FDM 3D printer, including print preparation by slicing (k3). They can independently carry out (sub-)projects as part of product development, from planning and design to production and functional testing (k6). In addition, they are proficient in selected functional testing techniques, in particular strength testing of components, and use them sensibly in the development process (k3, k4, k5). They can distribute tasks in small teams, control time management and communicate effectively (k3, k6). Students are able to present the results of their work in an easy-to-understand manner (k3). Students know and understand design principles and methods that are used in CAD systems to implement product ideas (k2). They are familiar with techniques that are particularly suitable for additive manufacturing processes and their implementation in CAD systems (k2, k3). They have an overview of various additive manufacturing technologies, with a focus on fused deposition modeling (FDM) (k1, k2). They also have a basic understanding of the material properties and process parameters that influence the success of 3D printing projects (k2). They know the principles of function-oriented product development, including the identification and implementation of relevant functional requirements (k2). They have basic knowledge of tensile testing and other testing methods to determine and validate the mechanical properties of components (k1).
