Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students are able to analyze and evaluate suitable product models across the entire product life cycle. They know the requirements for such models in the various development stages of a product and can derive them independently for specific tasks. They are able to critically scrutinize the results of models and apply suitable methods of model verification and validation.
Skills Knowledge
Specifically, they can

  • understand the role of models in the entire product life cycle. This applies in particular to product models as representations of products in all phases of the product life cycle, process models as representations of engineering and business processes, process models as representations of processes in production, logistics, commissioning, product use, maintenance through to product recycling (k2)
  • understand the most important CAx models and CAx tools for product development and have knowledge of their application (k2, k3)
  • understand and apply common methods of modeling and simulation, procedures for creating models including model planning (k2, k3)
  • apply various methods of modeling and system analysis through simulation (k3, k4)
  • carry out the necessary steps for model verification and validation (k3, k4)
  • Overview of the problems and tasks of product development, recognition of customer needs and wishes and the resulting opportunities and possible unique selling propositions (USPs) for new products.
  • Product innovation and strategic product planning.
  • Systems engineering methodology and process models for product development.
  • Structure and typical phases of product development processes.
  • Development of product concepts.
  • Synthesis, analysis, evaluation and selection of solution concepts.
  • Fundamentals of modeling: role and significance of systems, properties, parameters and models in product development, requirements for models.
  • Modeling: Model planning, types of models, approach to modeling.
  • System analysis through simulation, model verification and validation.
  • Important CAx models and CAx tools for product development.
  • Model and parameter management for the integration of models, parameters and data.
