Competences
Students are able to design simple turbomachines (axial and radial fans) using analytical methods, calculate pressure losses in more complex pipe systems and design simple heat exchangers using analytical methods.
Skills Knowledge
Specifically, they can

  • explain the fundamentals of the operation of turbomachines (K2),
  • design impellers of radial and axial fans (K3,4,5),
  • design basic guiding devices (K3,4,5),
  • analytically estimate pressure losses of pipe systems (K3,4),
  • explain the fundamentals of heat exchangers (K2)
  • calculate and design basic heat exchangers (K5)
  • Fundamentals of fluid machinery (basic quantities, dimensionless performance quantities, Euler's turbomachinery equation)
  • Analysis and calculation of axial and radial fans and turbines
  • Total pressure losses and heat transfer in pipe systems
  • Fundamentals of Heat Exchangers
  • Design of concurrent, countercurrent and cross-current heat exchangers
