  • Understand and be able to dimension basic circuits in industrial and mobile hydraulics applications
  • Understand the working principle of hydrostatic propulsion and steering drives
  • Basic knowledge in the application of MATLAB-Simulink to the simulation of fluid power systems
Skills Knowledge
  • Be able to isolate basic circuits within complex circuit schematics (k1 - k4)
  • Ability to solve complex drive tasks by combination of basic cirucits (k1 - k6)
  • Ability to dimension hydrostatic steering systems (k1 - k5)
  • Ability to dimension hydrostatic propulsion drives (k1 - k5)
  • Ability to apply MATLAB-Simulink in modeling and simulation of hydraulic drive systems (k1 - k5)
  • Circuit technology (industrial hydraulics): inflow and outflow metering, load holding circuits, sequence and cut-off circuits, differential(regenerative) mode
  • Circuit technology (mobile hydraulics): open vs. closed center systems, load sensing, positive vs. negative control, flow sharing concepts
  • Hydrostatic steering - setup and working principle
  • Hydrostatic propulsion - basic setup with positive displacement units, feeding and bleed-off circuitry, pressure limitation, dynamic behaviour, thermal behaviour
  • principles of mathematical modeling for hydraulic systems
  • Handling of a standard software package (MATLAB-Simulink) in modeling and simulation of hydraulic drive systems
Criteria for evaluation Home work assignments.
Oral final exam.
Methods Ex-cathedra teaching paired with homework assignments where submitted results are assessed by the responsible teacher.
