Learning Outcomes |
Competences |
Students master the theoretical basics and the practical use of standards and formats of multimedia data. Students can evaluate components, architectures and trends of multimedia systems.
|
|
Skills |
Knowledge |
Students
- can conceptually describe the basic principles of coding for the media types text, images, audio and video and implement them algorithmically.
- understand the structure and methodology of common standards (e.g. Unicode, GIF, mp3, MPEG).
- can select the appropriate coding formats depending on their requirements and area of application.
- understand the connections between quality of coding and degree of compression.
- can translate the basics of human perception into requirements for media formats.
|
- Media-types (text, graphic/image, audio, video)
- compression methods (lossy and lossless)
- stand-alone multimedia systems (multimedia storage formats, synchronisation)
- networked multimedia systems (multimedia streaming, QoS principles
and methods, digital TV)
