Learning Outcomes
Competences
In this course, students gain a solid understanding of locally convex spaces and new concepts of continuity Hahn-Banach theorem, the bipolar theorem and distributions.
Skills Knowledge
  • Proving the continuity of linear mappings
  • Constructing linear continuous extensions
  • Applying continuity concepts (weak topologies)
  • Producing existence proofs using compactness arguments (Bourbaki--Alaoglu)
  • Extending classical operations (such as differentiation, Fouriertransforms) to suitable spaces of distributions
Introduction to locally convex spaces, continuity in locally convex spaces, weak topologies, the Hahn-Banach theorem, the bipolar theorem and distributions.
