Upon completing the course, students learn the following skills. They are able to
- understand and explain basic concepts and phenomena of magnetism (k1/k2);
- transfer the basic principles of magnetism to more advanced problems in the area of magnetism (k3/k4);
- formulate and interpret physical laws and simple theories and understand their limitations (k4/k5).

During the course, students acquire knowledge in the following areas and concepts of magnetism:
- basic concepts of magnetism and electromagnetism;
- magnetic units;
- Dirac equation and spin, atomic magnetic moments;
- dia- and paramagnetism;
- magnetism of condensed matter, local vs. itinerant description;
- ferroic order phenomena;
- exchange interaction and mechanisms, mean-field model;
- magnetic phase transitions, thermal excitations;
- magnetic hysteresis, magnetic anisotropy.
