Learning Outcomes
Competences
After successfully completing the course, students are able to explain fundamental concepts from the listed topics related to the analysis of a single variable. They can apply the reasoning and problem-solving methods of mathematics, and transfer them to specific physical problems.

This lecture is methodically complemented by the exercise Mathematik für Physik I (Analysis einer Veränderlichen).

Skills Knowledge
Upon completing the course, students learn the following skills. They are able to

  • understand and explain basic concepts of the analysis of a single variable (k1/k2);
  • understand and apply mathematical methods and techniques in a precise and analytical way (k3);
  • apply the principles of the analysis of a single variable and transfer them to the context of physical problems (k3).
During the course, students acquire knowledge in the analysis of a single variable:

  • sets, relations and functions;
  • numbers;
  • metric spaces;
  • convergence and limit values of sequences and series;
  • continuity;
  • minima and maxima of functions;
  • differentiation of functions of a single real variable;
  • power series and Taylor's theorem;
  • Riemann integral.
