(*)Students will be able to understand, explain, and evaluate the basic reactions, reaction mechanism and techniques used in the basic organic chemistry lab course.

- understand and explain the underlying mechanisms of nucleophilic substitution reactions, elimination reactions, electrophilic and nucleophilic addition reactions, rearrangements, and reactions of aromatic compounds (k2, k3, k4)
- predict, explain, and describe the outcome of reactions belonging to these mechanistic regimes (k3, k6)
- understand the differences in reactivities of different functional groups under various reaction conditions (k2, k4, k5)
