Competences
Students are familiar with basic safety principles in the chemical laboratory and are able to implement them.

Students are able to carry out basic chemical laboratory techniques independently according to precise instructions.

Students are able to document their results appropriately.

Skills Knowledge
- knowing frequently used chemicals (k1)

- being able to recognize the hazard potential of chemicals using the GHS symbols (k2)

- preparing experiments based on given experimental instructions (k1-k2), carrying them out (k3), documenting the results properly (k3) and interpreting them (k1,k2,k4)

- carrying out various separation procedures and simple analysis methods independently and safely (k3)

- being able to evaluate different methods of volume measurement (k5)

- being able to carry out basic calculations relevant to laboratory work (k3)

- GHS symbols, warning / prohibition / rescue / fire protection symbols, safety data sheets

- personal protective equipment, protective equipment in the chemical laboratory

- proper disposal of small quantities of chemical waste

- basic laboratory equipment

- basics of chemical calculation: different types of concentrations, dilutions, density, yields

- analytical techniques: refractive index

- working techniques: pipetting/measuring, weighing, preparing solutions, distillation, extraction

- writing a laboratory journal and protocols
