Students know the basic concepts and technical terms of general and physical chemistry and can apply the concepts they have learned to smaller problems
Skills Knowledge
- being able to reproduce definitions of basic concepts in general and physical chemistry (k1,k2)

- being able to describe the structure of matter (k1,k2)

- being able to explain relationships between structure or position in the periodic table and properties of substances (k2) and derive properties of substances from their structure (k2)

- being able to draw Lewis structure formulas (k3)

- being able to apply basic formulas of physical chemistry (k3)

- Atomic structure: development of atomic models, quantum mechanical atomic model, orbitals, electron configuration, periodic table, nuclear reactions

- Matter: classification and properties, states of matter, gas laws, intermolecular interactions, phases and phase transitions

- Chemical bonds: ionic bonding, covalent bonding, metal bonding, hybridization, molecular orbitals, basics of coordination compounds, Lewis structural formulas

- Fundamentals of thermodynamics, surface tension
