Learning Outcomes |
Competences |
Learning Objectives
- LO3: The students are able to apply the general knowledge imparted in the course (central elements of scientific work or the scientific work process) to their own seminar paper (application of the acquired knowledge - transfer)
- LO4/LO5: The students are able to select the conceptual and theoretical foundations and methodology required to deal with the problem, objectives and research questions or to justify this selection (analysis and evaluation), to answer their research question(s) using the selected research methodology and to discuss the empirical results in the context of the literature and the theoretical framework.

Learning Objectives
The students should learn the ability to
- develop and define a scientific problem and justify its relevance,
- derive the objective of the seminar paper and the underlying research question(s) from the problem,
- present the current state of research in outline,
- select conceptual principles and theories in the context of the seminar paper and justify their relevance,
- select and justify the methodological approach (quantitative or qualitative research methods) and the object of investigation to develop the research question(s),
- present their seminar paper as part of the theory seminar.
|
Learning Objectives
The students gain knowledge of the scientific working method or the scientific work process. Central sub-processes and quality criteria of scientific work, as well as formal requirements for writing a seminar paper in the field of business administration are taught, with particular attention to selected subject areas of controlling/management accounting.
Objectives of the seminar:
- Dealing with selected aspects of management accounting
- Training in independent scientific work
- Creating and giving a presentation
- Dealing with business management issues from a theoretical and practical perspective
|
|
Criteria for evaluation |
The assessment of the seminar is made up of the seminar paper and the presentation, taking the following criteria into account:
- Processing of the topic
- Extent of topic coverage and processing
- Structuring, systematic approach
- Relevance of the literature
- Independence of the problem solution
- Formal criteria
- Completeness of the lists
- Stringency of the citation style
- Language (grammar and spelling)
- Graphic presentation (layout)
Between 0 and 10 points are awarded for each sub-criterion, which are then weighted according to a predetermined percentage.
The learning outcomes LO3 to LO5 are achieved on the one hand through the upstream (by the course leader) and accompanying information input. The literature provided (slide set, textbook literature, scientific articles) is intended to facilitate the transfer of application or implementation examples. Above all, a consistent feedback culture serves to achieve the learning outcomes LO4/LO5. The learning outcomes achieved are checked through the seminar paper or presentation of the seminar paper.
|
Methods |
The following teaching methods are used in the theory seminar to achieve the learning objectives:
- Information input by the course leader supported by appropriate media (slide sets, textbook literature, scientific articles, presentation of examples and striking application errors, use of databases)
- Self-directed learning using the media provided
- Consistent use of learning support in the form of feedback and discussions by the course leader in group sessions and individual sessions
- Presentations and feedback
