Competences
After successfully completing the course, students will be able to
read notation used in calculus textbooks
understand the most important properties of sequences and real valued functions.
Skills
Knowledge
Students learn the following skills:
solving problems involving real numbers, sets of numbers and real valued functions
computing solutions of equations by approximation
computing limits of sequences and real valued functions
differentiating functions
deciding convergence behaviour of series
determining local maxima and minima of real valued functions
using induction to prove relations between arithmetic terms.
Students learn the following concepts from analysis:
basic notions of elementary set theory
the hierarchy of number systems and cardinality
the real continuum
infimum and supremum
the concepts of inner point and adhaerent point
limits of sequences and functions
continuity and differentiability.
