(*)Students develop a comprehensive understanding of biological membranes in excitable cells particularly of the musculoskeletal and nervous system. This includes how these cells operate within their environment and local networks. The structure and physiology of ion channels, receptors and membrane transporters and the core electrical properties of biological membranes will be introduced. The lecture also covers the basics of molecular components of excitable membranes, their interactions with the extracellular space and neuronal myelin sheaths also in the context of human disease.
