Objectives The students …

know the basic structure and functions of networked ICT systems and can explain how these form the basis of digitalisation;

know how to use office and web applications and can explain the advantages of open source software. They can explain and apply the models and concepts behind the individual applications, also independently of concrete products or versions;

are able to solve even complex business tasks with the help of spreadsheets by combining the knowledge imparted in the course with their ability to independently research missing knowledge elements on the Internet and to analyse this information and explain their contribution to a professional solution and to support this with appropriate arguments;

know data and process models and can create such models themselves for simple tasks. They can analyse complex models and question their consistency or freedom from error with their business management expertise;

understand the theoretical basics of the relational database in comparison with other alternative database models. They can understand and explain the relational database model so that they are able to formulate SQL queries of simple and medium complexity themselves and explain why their developed solution makes sense from a technical point of view.

know the technical, social and legal framework and can explain the consequences for digitalisation and are also able to propose decisions based on this knowledge and a critical understanding of the task and to justify them convincingly in writing.

Subject The students have knowledge of the building blocks and functionality of hardware and software, information and communication technology (ICT), application and adoption of office software, documentation and collaboration on the Internet, basics of computer networks, operation systems and database management systems, data model (structured: ER/ UML, relational, semi-structured, document-oriented: XML etc.) process models (BPMN), basic relational database queries and analysis (SQL, SQL-based OLAP), information security and data protection, societal (Digital Corporate Responsibility) and legal issues (digital rights management, intellectual property, software and digital media)
