Objectives Get in touch with elementary concepts, terms, definitions and assumptions of the most important physical theories, understanding the mathematical and logical construction of these theories and how they are applied to specific physical systems.
Subject Mathematical Methods in Physics:
Recapitulation and extension of vector algebra, analysis and calculus, tensor calculus, curvilinear coordinates, ordinary differential equations, functions of complex variables, Fourier transformations, Dirac delta distribution.

Theoretical Mechanics: mechanics of point particles and rigid bodies, Newtonian mechanics, accelerated coordinate systems, Lagrangian mechanics, small vibrations, motion in central force field, Hamiltonian mechanics, transition to quantum mechanics.
Theoretical Electrodynamics I: Maxwell's equations, electrostatics and magnetostatics in vacuum, electromagnetic waves.
Theoretical Electrodynamics II: Theory of electromagnetic radiation, interaction with matter, macroscopic and microscopic Maxwell equations, boundary conditions at interfaces, field-matter interactions, relativistic electrodynamics.
Theoretical Quantum Mechanics I: Basic assumptions, Schrödinger equation for one particle, use of symmetry, approximate methods, identical particles and exchange interaction, the principle of chemical bond.
Theoretical Thermodynamics: Fundamental concepts and laws of thermodynamics, thermodynamic potentials, simple applications of thermodynamics, phase transitions, the connection between entropy and probability, basics of kinetic theory.
