Objectives Exercise on the most important concepts of atomic and subatomic physics. Introduction to the scientific approach and methods of solving problems in physics. Application of these methods to specific physical systems.
Subject Radiation laws; fundamental experiments and basic concepts of quantum mechanics; wave-particle dualism; the Schrödinger equation and its applications; atoms with one and more electrons; spin, Pauli principle, periodic table; chemical bonding and molecules; Atomic and molecular spectra; atoms in static and time-varying fields, optical transitions and selection rules Basic principles of nuclear and elementary particle physics.
Criteria for evaluation (1) number of successfully solved exercises and (2) quality of the presentation and participation in the exercise class.
Methods Autonomous solution of problems (individually or in small groups) and presentation of these solutions in the class.
