Objectives The course focuses on understanding the most important concepts of atomic and subatomic physics.. Introduction to the scientific approach and methods of solving problems in physics. Application of these methods to specific physical systems.
Subject Radiation laws; fundamental experiments and basic concepts of quantum mechanics; wave-particle dualism; the Schrödinger equation and its applications; atoms with one and more electrons; spin, Pauli principle, periodic table; chemical bonding and molecules; Atomic and molecular spectra; atoms in static and time-varying fields, optical transitions and selection rules Basic principles of nuclear and elementary particle physics.
Criteria for evaluation written and eventually additional oral examination.
Methods Lecture with demonstration experiments.
