Master's programme Social Economics 2023W |
Objectives |
The aim of this course is to give students an insight into standard works of economic theory and to provide a space for critical discussion of primary economic literature. In the upcoming summer semester 2022, the focus will be on J.A. Schumpeter and his work "Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy" (1942), which will be presented and discussed in the course units. Students will gain a deep understanding of economic theory formation, as well as how to approach problems in an integrated and interdisciplinary way of thinking. In addition, thought-provoking impulses on phenomena that are still relevant today, such as monopolisation or populism, will be given and discussed together.

Subject |
The focus of the course is on the development and elaboration of single passages from Schumpeter (1942). The students are encouraged to put forward their own thoughts and contributions to the discussion and to deal intensively with assumptions, derivations and shortfalls of economic theories.
