- Understand factors that influence firms’ labor demand
- Understand the importance of self-selection in determining labor market outcomes
- Understand measures of wage and income inequality and recent trends and causes

This course will give an understanding of some of the issues in contemporary labor economics, with an emphasis on the empirical side of the discipline. It will cover a mix of theoretical economics and econometric techniques. Topics covered include: introduction to empirical labor economics; labor supply and labor demand; self-selection; skills, tasks, and technology; trade and labor markets; discrimination and race; discrimination and gender
