Objectives
Knowledge of electric circuits (hard- and software) in connection with electric drive applications
Subject
The laboratory exercise in electrical circuits for drive systems is an advanced course that gives an introduction into the behaviour and operation of DSP based programming. The laboratory exercise comprises four lessons, each lasting four hours, dealing with different topics:
Basics of DSP programming and architecture:
The fist lection deals with the principal programming and architecture of a DSP (TMS2407 from TI) with
concentration towards components and function blocks (IO's, Interrupts, Timer, PWM ...;) that are important
for electrical drives. The written programs can be tested on a special evaluation board that is connected with the processor core.
Control of a stepper motor powering a linear drive system:
This lection focuses on the functionality of a typical stepper motor control. The main issues are studied by programming different time-position profiles for the linear drive system.
Voltage and Frequency control (V/f) of an induction motor:
A speed-control algorithm based on the V/f-characteristics of an induction motor is being implemented and tested during the lab work. In this context the specific configuration of the peripheral components of the
microcontroller is also an important part of the laboratory course.
Space-Vector-Modulation control (SVM) of an induction motor:
SVM is a digital modulation technique for control of pulse width modulation. It is used for the generation of alternating current waveforms, most commonly to drive three-phase AC powered motors at varying speeds. The aim of this lab is the application of the SVM-control strategy on an induction motor. Participants will obtain an overview of the properties of the control strategies for bridge-inverter circuits controlling electric drives in general.
