Detailed information |
Original study plan |
Master's programme Mechanical Engineering 2023W |
Objectives |
Students know and understand the problems associated with the installation of machines and systems from which periodic or transient (shock-type) vibration excitations can emanate. In particular, they understand the mathematical models for calculating the forces led into the ground or the movement of the foundation and can apply these models to concrete design examples.
Students understand the nature of parametric oscillations, in particular using Mathieu's differential equation, and are able to interpret stability charts. They understand the emergence of parametric resonances and recognise possible causes in drive systems. They know how to solve simple numerical examples numerically and evaluate the calculation results. With regard to self-excited oscillations, students understand the underlying mechanism and the possible effects and measures to avoid them. The last part of the course covers topics on condition monitoring and diagnosis of rotating machinery. Students know the relevant standards and guidelines and are able to identify damage to machines by interpreting measurement signals and initiate suitable countermeasures if necessary.
Students’ ability to apply the scientific principles from the theoretical part of the course successfully to concrete calculation tasks in the exercise part shows the level of their knowledge. The following textbooks can serve as orientation:
- H. Dresig, F. Holzweißig: Maschinendynamik, 10. Auflage, Springer Verlag
- R. Gasch, R. Nordmann, H. Pfützner: Rotordynamik, 2. Auflage, Springer Verlag
- M. Weck, C. Brecher: Werkzeugmaschinen 5 – Messtechnische Untersuchung und Beurteilung, dynamische Stabilität, 7. Auflage, Springer Vieweg Verlag
Note: Students can download these textbooks for free via the JKU network.
