Detailed information
Original study plan Master's programme Physics 2023W
Objectives The second part of the course intends to deepen the knowledge in the concepts and the main experimental and theoretical methods in surface science. The emphasis lies on the microscopic understanding of the structural, physical and chemical properties of surfaces.
Subject The second part of the course covers the following topics: 1) Electronic properties of surfaces,
2) Dynamical properties (phonons and adsorbate-vibrations),
3) Thermodynamics of surfaces and thin films,
4) Adsorption and desorption,
5) Diffusion and growth on surfaces.
Criteria for evaluation oral exam, dates by arrangement.
Language German
Study material Lecture notes covering both parts of the course are available (presently only in German). In addition, all slides and supplementary information presented in the class will be distributed in electronic form. References for further reading will be given in the class.
