Detailed information |
Original study plan |
Bachelor's programme Mechanical Engineering 2020W |
Objectives |
Learning and understanding the basics of electro-active materials and structures, acquiring knowledge and basic skills concerning mathematical modeling, numerical simulation and practical engineering applications of electro-active structures.
|
Subject |
With the lecture Electro-Active Structures the topics
- Electro-active materials (piezoelectric materials, electro-active polymers, electrostriction, ferroelectricity)
- Fundamentals (balance equations of electro-active continua, ponderomotive forces, Maxwell stress, phenomenological material modeling)
- Electro-active structural mechanics (rods, beams, plates and shells)
- Simulation and numerics (Finite Elements for electromechanically coupled problems - 3D formulations, Finite Elements for coupled structural mechanics)
- Design of sensor and actor components in electro-active structures
- Discussion of practical problems (active vibration reduction, shape control, structural monitoring, switching devices) by means of selected case studies
are discussed in detail.
|
Criteria for evaluation |
Written and / or oral exam as well as independent elaboration of an example problem.
|
Methods |
The theoretical basics are worked out in the lecture parts combining blackboard with slides, and the tutorial parts deepen the acquired knowledge by discussing simple example problems using both, analytical and numerical methods.
|
Language |
German |
