Detailed information
Original study plan Bachelor's programme Technical Physics 2022W
Objectives Get in touch with elementary concepts, terms, definitions and assumptions of electrodynamics, understanding the mathematical and logical construction of this theory and how it is applied to specific physical systems.
Subject General theory of electro-magnetic fields in vacuum
a) Maxwell-Lorentz equations, potentials, gauge conditions, energy and momentum of the field
b) Special cases: electrostatics, magnetostatics, wave equation
c) Outlook: field of arbitrary moving point charges, electromagnetic fields in matter, relativity
Criteria for evaluation (1) Number of successfully solved problems, (2) quality of presentations/commitment during the excercise course, (3) eventually additional excercise exams.
Methods Independent solution of problems (alone or in small groups), presentation of solutions during the excercise course.
