| Objectives |
Students will acquire skills to conduct an economic analysis in the field of health care. The course focuses on understanding incentives for physicians, hospitals, patients, and other health care institutions as well as learning that a person's health statics crucially depends on how much time and financial resources are invested in health capital stock. In addition, the course covers important institutional arrangements in the Austrian health system.

| Subject |
The main focus is efficient allocation of scarce resources to the health care sector and also in the health system. In order to understand key issues of health care economics, the following topics will be addressed:
Supply and demand of health services, health insurance, the impact of technological advancement in the health care sector, the (rational) behaviour of patients, physicians and hospitals, the pharmaceutical industry and health politicians. The course aims to further enhance students' knowledge of health care economics and its background and explores the institutional framework of the Austrian and/or European health care sector by providing current information and empirical evidence.
