Subject This course examines science as a social activity, especially dealing with the social conditions and effects of science, and with the social structures and processes of scientific activity. It will focus specifically on the political, historical, cultural or economic factors that drive the scientific process. Central topics include: the so-called ‘science wars’, social constructivism and relativism, the experimenter’s regress, particularities of the social and biomedical sciences, and the democratisation of science.
