Objectives This subject provides insights into the importance of Finance on decisions and outcomes in Economics.
Subject Economics is riddled with Finance. Most fundamental decisions in Economics have a “financial“ dimension. Intertemporal consumption decisions are affected by an individual’s opportunities to save and borrow on financial markets; an economy cannot function without access to a banking system; investment decisions of firms rely on opportunities abroad, and consequently on the value of its own as well as foreign currencies; firms need funding from outside investors to operate, and the sources of funding affect incentives within firms. The courses in this module deal with the interaction of important concepts in Economics with aspects from Finance. They provide a deep insights into how the quality of and frictions in financial markets affect economic outcomes.
