Objectives basic understanding and calculation of physical chemistry examples
Subject Students in this course will get a basic understanding in the application of the principles of physical chemistry leading to an understanding of the processes responsible for industrial processes and life. Parallel to the lecture Physical Chemistry I it provides examples and related exercises that are calculated and discussed in this class. Topics that are covered are: 1) Gas laws

  • Empirical gas laws
  • Description of real gases
  • Kinetic gas theory
  • Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution

2) Introduction to quantum chemistry

  • History of atomistic development
  • Bohr atomic model
  • Schrödinger equation
  • Particle-in-a-box

3) Thermodynamics

  • Classical thermodynamics
  • Cycle processes
  • Statistical thermodynamics
  • Partition function
  • Chemical equilibrium

4) Introduction to chemical kinetics

5) Introduction to electrochemistry

  • Electrochemical potential
  • Electrolyte solutions and dissociation
  • Types of electrochemical cells
  • Standard redox potentials
