Objectives information and communication technologies, which is known as “Cyber-Physical Production System (CPPS)”. In order to better understand the latest trends of manufacturing technologies this lecture gives an introduction to the basics of production automation systems, their structure, programming and important components.
Subject The topics of the course are as follows:

  1. Introduction to production automation, its task and examples
  2. Structure and devices in production automation systems (e.g., PLCs, SCADA, MES)
  3. Overview on Fieldbuses and their applications
  4. Real-time programming
  5. PLC programming with IEC 61131-3
  6. Distributed control approaches for more flexible and adaptive production systems
  7. IEC 61499 – a domain specific modeling language for distributed control systems
  8. OPC UA
  9. Outlook on upcoming production automation technologies
