Bachelor's programme Economics and Business 2020W 2020W |
Objectives |
The course (KS) Empirical Economics is an introduction to Econometrics. Parallel to this course, students should also attend the intensive course (IK) Empirical Economics. The combination of both courses initially aims to support students in developing skills for empirical work. Here, the focus is on the intuition of empirical approaches, and the recognition of the range and limits of empirical methods as a basis of data-driven decisions. After completing the two courses, students will be familiar with the technical vocabulary and be able to independently conduct empirical (econometric) research. These skills are not only required for economic analyses, but are also valuable in business practice or for assessing policy measures. In a further step, students learn to formulate their (own) research hypotheses, to collect useful data, and to interpret empirical results. The IK offers an introduction to the statistical/econometric software package STATA. The course(s) are primarily aimed at students of economics and business analytics, but also at students of other programs who are interested in empirical approaches and methods.
