Objectives The course focuses on two core elements of comparison including cultures and historical periods.
Subject Cultural phenomena are characterised by their variety and diversity: The course 'Comparative Research in Cultural Studies' introduces students to approaches and methods in comparative research within the field of cultural studies. Comparative research and case studies allow for a deeper understanding of what is exceptional about a given culture, for learning how to distinguish the specific from the general, and for seeking out universal traits of human cultures.
Criteria for evaluation Examination: 60%; case studies and written summaries on topics covered in the readings and in class: 40%
