Objectives |
A conceptual data model describes the semantics of a particular domain, which is the scope of the abstract and formalized model. This model consists of entity classes, representing kinds of things of significance in the domain, and relationships between pairs of entity classes. The design of the data model is also crucial for the scope and accuracy of data analysis that is possible later on.
Data modeling is essential to assure high data quality, which is an important prerequisite for industry, data-driven decisions, or artificial intelligence. It is an important skill for data scientists or others involved with data analysis.
This course aims at a theoretical and practical basis on data modeling. The process of data modeling is demonstrated by means of real-world case studies and examples. Students gain experience by applying the learned methods to practical exercises.
