This course focuses on the basic concepts of management and is structured in three parts:
Part I Management Theory

- Topic 4. Systems and Contingency Approaches to Management
- Topic 5. Contemporary Approaches to Management
Part II Management Practice

Part III Functional Management
- Topic 9. Marketing Management
- Topic 10. Operations Management
- Topic 11. Human Resource Management
- Topic 12. Information Resource Management

Criteria for evaluation |
You will be assessed by two types of assignments:
- Individual assignments (IAs) (66 Points+): Addressing questions by using insights from the book
- Team assignment (TA) (34 Points): Analyzing an existing corporation

Methods |
- Self-study: This is the main method of the course. You need to closely read the chapters of the study material assigned in the respective weeks (see below).
- Question-based learning: The self-study equips you with the knowledge to address questions that are issued on a regular basis (see below).
- Online-mediated discussions: At any time of the course, you should engage with the forums on Moodle to both pose questions and respond to questions of your peers. Doing so will also help you to deepen your knowledge acquired as part of the self-study.
- Case study: Analyzing a situation and/or firm with respect to specific questions/aspects
