Competences |
1. General Language competences Building on Italian Communicative Skills students extend their knowledge of language learning strategies and of communication strategies appropriate to B1.2. They are able to understand and produce Italian at a B1.2 level according to the CEFR.
2. Specific language competences Students are able to understand, summarize and comment the main ideas of more complex Italian texts or podcasts relating to familiar economic issues, even without long preparation work. They can compare advantages or disadvantages of different options in a professional business contest. They are able to give reasons for or against a particular point of view. Students have sharpened their skills how to produce clear presentations about business and economic issues. Particularly, they can present the structure and organization of the different departments of a company, of a product or of a service. They can manage phone calls to get/give further information (e.g. about a product/ a service or about delivery problems) They have basic skills of commercial correspondence: they can write an order and they can write an invitation to a fair.

Learning Outcomes
Summarize and analyze (orally and written) information provided from different media, orally even without long preparation work. Identify the functions and responsibilities of the different company departments with help of a chart. Present products or services in details. Apply argumentation techniques in a company context and argue the pros and cons of a company decision (e.g. a trade fair participation). Manage phone calls (information). Write formal letters/emails.

Criteria for evaluation |
80% class attendance is mandatory. In total, students have the possibility to reach 100 points. A total minimum of 55 points out of 100 is necessary in order to obtain a positive grade.
Students will be assessed on the basis of
- tests
- written and oral final exam
- oral presentation

Methods |
Communicative activities to promote and develop speaking (role plays - discussions- presentations) / reading / listening and writing competences. The class activities can be in pairs or in groups and are based on a variety of materials (texts, videos, pictures, ads). Individual tasks are also a relevant part of this learning approach. Self-study (grammar) could probably be necessary to achieve the learning outcomes. Homework exercises
