Objectives |
Knowledge of selected topics from the Common Law Legal Order (e.g. Alternative Dispute Resolution and Contract Law) as well as US Bankruptcy Law.

Subject |
Discussion of most important features of the Common Law Legal Order. The main goal of the course is to give the students a basic insight to the Legal Order of Common Law. A special focus is on the differences between civil law (Austria, Germany) and common law countries (USA, UK) generally. The following topics will be dealt with in detail: Sources of Law, Dispute Resolution, System of Stare Decisis, Basics of US Law, Federal Law and State Law, Contract Law and US Bankruptcy Law.
Another focus is given to case law; landmark cases decided by the USSC.
